Our outreach

How we serve

We serve by holding clinics, supporting local churches and organizations, and promoting education in a Christian atmosphere.

Medical clinics

Medical care has been part of this work since the very first trip to the Dominican Republic in 1995. Today, medical clinics are arranged with local leaders and shaped by the skills of each team. Because many medicines can’t travel in luggage, supplies are usually shipped months before a trip.

Eyeglass clinics

From CMM’s early years, an eye care professional joined our trips to examine patients and distribute eyeglasses. Teams have continued to hold eyeglass clinics, sometimes hiking out to people who can’t come to a clinic.

Education & local schools

CMM partners with the local school, Escuela San Jose Adentro. Teams bring school supplies collected in the US, or take on projects the school needs, such as painting and repairs. Over the years CMM has also helped build an addition on the school, supported students going on to university, taught English to children and young adults, and offered computer and cooking classes in its Christian Education building.

Construction & home repair

Many homes in the area need repairs and painting. Local leaders connect teams with the families who need help, and teams buy materials ahead of time or after they arrive. Teams also help care for the Twin Palms houses, which host many mission groups in the community. Over the years CMM groups have built and repaired homes, helped build schools and expanded a nearby church.

Bible programs & evangelism

Teams lead two- to three-day programs for children in the style of Vacation Bible School, with crafts, activities and the Gospel, and evening Bible studies for men or women over three or four nights. Bilingual groups experienced in evangelism can also share the Gospel in the nearby city alongside the local church. Most importantly, CMM exists to bring the Gospel to the people of the community.

Food distribution

Teams buy large bags of beans and rice in the country, portion them into bags for each family, and carry them through the village and nearby communities to hand them out. Over the years CMM groups have also distributed clothing.

Water pipe installation

CMM groups have installed water pipes and assisted with the water supply for the San Jose Adentro community. CMM has also worked on water filters for local homes, and rainwater collected at its Christian Education building has been shared with neighbors during the dry season.

Our heritage

Dental missions: where CMM began

CMM’s story is rooted in dentistry. After the 1995 trip, our founder, Dr. Mark McDonald, a dentist from Concord, New Hampshire, and his friend Jack Meibaum felt God calling them back to the Dominican Republic to provide dental care. They returned many times in small groups, with Mark doing dentistry and Jack assisting.

CMM concluded its dental clinics after Mark’s death in 2015, and we will always have a heart for dental missions. Jack has now lived in San Jose Adentro for more than twenty years, serving the community as a dentist through his ministry, Mission to the Children Dental Clinic.

She could read her Bible again

On an eyeglass clinic trip, a team hiked out to visit a woman who had struggled to see for a long time. All she wanted was to read her Bible again.
